What is Invisalign?
Orthodontic treatment can be crucial in improving your smile
and confidence. In the past, the only option for braces was with metal brackets
and wiring. Technology has changed and Invisalign clear aligner trays are now
being used more than even. These clear aligners force pressure on the teeth,
causing them to shift into more uniform alignment.
Why would Invisalign be needed?
Invisalign is helpful in treating an array of orthodontic
problems, like crowding, crookedness, spacing and even malocclusion problems.
Invisalign treatment is customized for each individual patient. Some people
will need to wear their Invisalign trays for as little as six months while
others may need orthodontic treatment for one or two years. Invisalign is
easier to wear than traditional braces because no metal brackets or wiring is
placed in the mouth.
What makes you a candidate for Invisalign?
While Invisalign is a wonderful option for most patients, it
isn’t for everyone. In order for Invisalign to work effectively, the aligners
should be worn for about 22 hours every single day. For younger teens and
children who may remove and not replace the trays, treatment may not be as
effective, and will be prolonged. However, Invisalign is ideal for teens and
adults who want orthodontic treatment without the world knowing about it.
What happens during treatment using Invisalign?
We start the Invisalign process with a consultation and
examination. This allows us to craft a personalized treatment plan, customized
just for you and your smile. Next, we take impressions so that your first trays
can be made for you. You will need to wear your Invisalign trays for about 22
hours a day for them to work effectively. They should be removed any time you brush
and floss your teeth. Keeping up with your orthodontic appointments every few
weeks helps treatment to go smoothly. New trays will be made for you as
treatment progresses, and your teeth begin to shift.
